You can find the Griffin in the western and northwestern sections of the map, from latitude 24 to latitude 58. However, with a little luck and some help, you'll be finding and taming Griffins in no time. It's not easy to find all the Griffin locations in Ark's Ragnarok DLC. Griffin Locations in Ark: Survival Evolved Other meats will work, but will significantly increase your taming time. The absolute quickest food for taming is Allosaurus Egg Kibble, although you can also use Raw Mutton, Raw Prime Meat, and Cooked Lamb Chop. When taming, plan ahead by building a pen to lure it in before knocking it out, as a Griffin will fly away at a speed and height you can't match when it nears maximum torpor. Make sure to always stay away from edges and ravines when you are on the ground and fighting a Griffin, as the wing blast knocks you back. That wide flying range means it will easily draw the attention of other aggressive creatures though, so be on the lookout for any other big beasts in range that might suddenly become part of the battle. Let's get to it then - a Griffin has a very wide turn radius, so if you stand in the center of a large open area, it will continuously fly in a large circle around you and get in fewer attacks. Griffins can also dive at absolutely ludicrous speeds, and then pull up to soar forward at quicker speeds than normal. Why do you want one of these flying vermin? Besides the fact that they look awesome (especially if you've got metal armor!), Griffins can carry two riders at a time, both of whom can fire ranged weaponry while mounted.īasically, any tamed Griffin is a mobile weapons platform for taking down other players or chasing after creatures to tame - and excellent for hunting down Wyvern eggs. All the stats and taming methods are exactly the same as they are for any other direbear you've ever come across. Less of a new creature and more just a new skin, the polar bear is essentially the exact same as the standard direbear - it just comes in all white coloration and can be found in the snow biome.

If you haven't done this before, check out our full guide to hatching Ark: Survival Evolved Wyvern eggs.įinding a fancy new Wyvern egg Polar Bear You'd think these eggs would need cold to hatch, but nope, they work just like the eggs in Scorched Earth - you have to put them on a large source of heat to incubate for hours (or days, depending on your heat source), then feed the baby some Wyvern Milk after they hatch. Just don't forget that health drops in the snow biome as you quickly freeze! You'll want a flying mount to hunt ice Wyvern eggs, with the Griffin in particular working well (see below). Instead, you have to snatch an ice Wyvern egg from a nest, hatch it, and then imprint the baby Wyvern. Just like the other Wyverns, they can't be directly tamed by going into torpor and feeding them food. Yep, this one's just like the Wyverns from Scorched Earth, but now available in an icy blue variant! Rather than the poison or lightning breath, this one breathes a cone of ice that slows enemies.
So far, the DLC appears to include some of the creatures and areas from the Scorched Earth DLC, in addition to all-new biomes and additional beasties to tame (or run from at high speed). In typical ARK fashion, the Ragnarok DLC arrives with only half the map complete and some new creatures MIA, as this game takes the concept of "early access" to whole new heights.
